Our Humble Beginnings

Schmitty & Sons began back in 1941 when Wilfrid Schmitt  "Schmitty" began driving for the Orchard Lake Co-Op, a local transit company. In 1952, Schmitty purchased his own bus and began transporting children for the Lakeville Schools. This tradition of excellence has allowed the company to expand and prosper throughout the years.

Schmitty & Sons still provide transportation for the Lakeville School district; however, the fleet has expanded from that one bus in 1952 to over 100 buses today. The expansion has also opened doors for new areas of business in the charter and transit division. In 2000, Schmitty & Son's purchased the rights to the Gray Line Tours franchise for Minnesota. Within Gray Line we operate a large fleet of school buses, mini-coaches and motorcoaches. The Schmitty & Sons transit division includes: Minnesota Valley Transit Authority (MVTA) and the Shakopee / Prior Lake BlueXpress.

Our services now reach beyond passenger transportation to include our state of the art repair and maintenance shop. We hire only the most experienced and qualified mechanics and body repair experts. Also, through our sales division we sell a wide range of quality vehicles, parts and equipment.

Schmitty & Son's mission has remained the same since the foundation in 1952. The focus has and always will be on the customer experience - ensuring the best in safe and reliable transportation. This is maintained through the team knowlegeable staff and experienced drivers. We believe that our strong foundation in our core values will continue the growth of Schmitty & Sons into the future.

Today, the company is run by current owners Dan and Sue Schmitt. Dan is the youngest son of Wilfrid and Florence Schmitt.
